This project showcases how Starlink’s high-speed, low-latency internet transforms onboard connectivity—even while vessels are stationary at port. Assessment and Planning
Our Starlink installation SMEs received a service request for Starlink installation for the yacht that is docked in Hollywood, FL. To assess the customer’s request, we performed a site visit to perform the following scope of work:

After the site visit, the team able to assess the needed materials, parts , mounting solutions and manpower needed for a smooth Starlink installation. We assisted the customer to have the legacy Starlink system to be reactivated and scheduled the installation with our Starlink installers in Hollywood, FL.
Starlink Optimization and Performance Test
Upon arrival at the marina in Hollywood, FL, our technical team began by conducting a Starlink Obstruction Test to identify the optimal mounting position. This test was crucial in ensuring the selected location offered unobstructed sky visibility, which is vital for consistent satellite signal reception.
The yacht’s hardtop roof was chosen for its elevated and structurally sound surface. The mounting area was carefully assessed to support both signal performance andsecure attachment, ensuring reliable operation even while underway. The Starlink cable was connected to the Gen2 WiFi Mesh Router. Plugged the into the power source. Activated and configured the SSID and password. Guide the customer on how to use the Starlink app.
Starlink Optimization and Performance Testing
Following the configuration of the Starlink system, we conducted a series of Starlink Speed tests to verify the connectivity performance. These tests are essential to assess the efficiency and reliability of the satellite internet service by measuring various parameters such as download speed, upload speed, and latency (ping).
- Latency (Ping): This refers to the delay between sending a request to the server and receiving a response. Latency is crucial for real-time applications like online gaming, video conferencing, and VoIP calls. Starlink’s latency is generally around 20 to 40 milliseconds, which is suitable for most uses, though it may vary based on satellite positioning and network load.
- Download Speed: This measures how quickly data can be received from the internet. A higher download speed indicates that streaming, browsing, or downloading files will be faster.
- Upload Speed: This measures the rate at which data can be sent from your device to the internet. Upload speeds are important for activities like video calls, cloud backups, and uploading large files.
- Latency: Ranged from 16 ms to 34 ms. All tests fall within the acceptable latency range for Starlink (20 to 40 ms).
- Download Speed: Values were 132 Mbps, 180 Mbps, and 386 Mbps. The download speeds are impressive, especially the last test at 386 Mbps, which is significantly above the typical range for Starlink (50 to 150 Mbps). T
- Upload Speed: Values were 25 Mbps, 28 Mbps, and 34 Mbps. The upload speeds are also above the typical range for Starlink (10 to 30 Mbps), with the last test reaching 34 Mbps.
