1. Pre-Installation Assessment

A Starlink installation service request was received from a customer located in Gaithersburg, MD. Upon receiving the request, our team of Starlink Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) promptly initiated an initial offsite assessment. This preliminary assessment involved analyzing satellite imagery, onsite photos and identifying potential obstructions such as trees or buildings on the area. The offsite assessment allows the team to determine the additional equipments, materials and manpower needed for seamless Starlink installation.

2. Onsite Execution

Our technician arrived as scheduled to perform the following scope of work:

• Installation of Starlink Standard dish using pivot mount.
• Cable routing from dish to indoor location of Gen3 WiFi mesh router.
• Activate and configure Gen3 WiFi Mesh router settings
• Provide Starlink App walkthrough and usage guidance to the customer
• Perform alignment and performance testing

The installation process started by conducting a Starlink obstructions test using the Starlink app. This step was essential to assess the surrounding environment and identify the most suitable location for the satellite dish. By evaluating potential signal blockages such as trees, buildings, or other structures, the installer ensured optimal connectivity. The proposed dish placement was then reviewed and approved by the homeowner before proceeding with the installation

Next, the Starlink installers routed the cable from the rooftop dish to the designated indoor location for the Gen 3 WiFi mesh router. They connected the Starlink cable and power adapter to the router, then powered on the system. Once the hardware was in place, the installers initiated the activation process and assisted the customer in configuring the network name (SSID) and password through their Starlink account.

We provided the customer a walkthrough to the Starlink app, such as performance monitoring, Wi-Fi configuration, device management, and basic troubleshooting.

3. Performance Testing

“After completing the installation of the Starlink system, a Starlink alignment test was conducted to evaluate the strength and stability of the satellite connection. This step ensured that the dish was properly positioned and the Starlink system was performing at its best, delivering optimal internet speeds and reliability for the household.

Following alignment, a basic and advanced Starlink speed test were performed to assess the system’s internet performance. Basic speed test is a general assessment of connection quality including download, upload speeds, latency. While advanced speed test offers a more detailed analysis of your internet connection such as jitter and packet loss. Useful for troubleshooting issues or understanding performance in more depth.

It is important to note that Starlink systems may require up to 12 hours to fully synchronize with the satellite network. During this period, users may experience fluctuations in performance as the dish optimizes its connection with the constellation of satellites.
