Project Overview: Starlink Installation for RV Park

Our Starlink SMEs tackled the service request for Starlink installation for RV park. They performed an initial offsite assessment through satellite imagery and customer-provided onsite photos. Our team needed to further assess the property because of complex installation requirements. They conducted a site survey to identify the following:

• Find optimal installation point for Starlink dish through Starlink obstructions test.
• Identify the good location for MDF setup (main distribution frame).
• Identify the parts and materials needed to install the Starlink Performance Gen3 system. Include components for a P2P or mesh Wi-Fi network to expand coverage across the RV park. Ensure the network reaches inside RVs and motorhomes for reliable connectivity.
• Design the Starlink and expanded WiFi network for review and approval by the customer.

The team received the job order and scheduled the installation with our local Starlink installers.

2. Onsite Starlink Installation

Our Starlink installation team arrived on-site as scheduled and began installing network equipment (MDF). The setup includes the Starlink Gen3 router, UPS, and PoE switch. This configuration provides a stable, reliable core network. It efficiently distributes Starlink internet to all connected locations throughout the RV park.

The installation team securely mounted the Starlink dish and one wireless access point on a 20-foot pole next to the RV housing the network equipment. This access point serves as the primary WAP, while the team strategically installed the remaining five WAPs on 15-foot poles around the park. These placements ensure full Wi-Fi coverage throughout the entire RV park.

Next, the team carefully routed the two low-voltage cables (Starlink & Cat6 cabling) from MDF to the Starlink Performance dish and primary wireless access point (WAP) via PoE switch.

3. Optimization and Performance Testing

Following the successful installation of the Starlink equipment, the team carried out a Starlink alignment test to verify that the satellite dish was correctly aligned to clear line of sight. This test is essential to confirm that the dish maintains a clear and stable connection with the Starlink satellite network.

Following the alignment of the Starlink dish, the installation team conducted a Starlink speed tests to evaluate the system’s internet performance, measuring key metrics such as download and upload speeds, latency, and overall connection stability to ensure optimal functionality.

The Starlink speed test shows excellent performance, with a high download speed of 380 Mbps, an upload speed of 40 Mbps, and a low latency of 25 ms. These results indicate a strong and reliable internet connection, ideal for bandwidth-intensive tasks such as 4K streaming, cloud-based work, video conferencing and large file transfers. The low latency ensures smooth real-time communication, making it suitable for online gaming and virtual meetings.

While Starlink establishes basic internet connectivity within 5-30 minutes, achieving optimal internet speed is a much longer process that can extend 12-24 hours after installation.
