Featured Starlink Installations & LEO Satellite Broadband Internet Articles
A pioneering undertaking began last December (2024) when the owners of a 171ft ex-Coast Guard merchant ship decided to install a Starlink & marine camera system with capabilities to video record and at times live stream on YouTube transmitting via Starlink their vessel’s journey from Ensenada, Mexico to the Arabian Sea. Starting with crossing the Pacific Ocean.
That is when some bold individuals who now sponsors: @ShipAdventureLive reached out to ProSat Networks to assist them with this innovative project in which ProSat Networks continues to be involved.
We were confident that we would be successful in being able to stream on-ship cameras via Starlink, but the question was how were we going to manage and configure the live streaming directly from the onboard camera system NVR to YouTube? We figured it out.
This article has all authentic installation photos. The actual installation took place while at anchor in All Saints Bay, Ensenada, Mexico. All the videos were either recorded and transmitted off the vessel to @ShipAdventureLive via Starlink while at sea crossing the Pacific Ocean with a Starlink maritime Mobile Priority data plan (ocean-bound), or they are recordings of actual live streams to YouTube via Starlink. There is no audio on this experiment to maximize recording space and time on the 20TB NVR.
ProSat Networks offers Starlink Maritime Installation for Boats in the USA (including AK, HI, PR & USVA), Caribbean and Mexico. Our crew of IT network & professional Starlink installation technicians that performed this Starlink and marine camera systems installation (with remote access and YouTube streaming functionality) in Ensenada, Baja Mexico is based out of SoCal (southern California). ProSat Networks has expert Starlink maritime installers who cover from Ensenada, Mexico, then north along the Baja coast through San Diego, Long Beach, Newport Beach, Port Los Angeles — all of Southern CA through Baja California, Mexico.
This article covers:
– Part 3: the camera system upgrade and testing live streams since embarking from Ensenada, journeying across the Pacific Ocean
With references and recaps of:
– Part 2: Starlink Maritime Installation, part 2, Starlink Installation on Boats
– Part 1: Marine Camera System Installation (the trial run)
Part 3: The Marine Camera System upgrade completed prior to departure from Mexico:
NVR upgraded to 2 10TB Hard Drives (HDDs) = 20TB of storage total.
Sound deactivated during trial run to max video record time
We also adjusted so only the Bow and Stern Cams are recording in 4K also to save space
From testing we believe we can store video only recordings for up to 7 to 8 weeks (possibly a little more).
The full-disclosure view of the finished MDF with Starlink and the video NVR up and running!
missing: the MiniPC we installed and configured to remote access and from which we stream directly to YouTube

Once our team of Starlink installation services techs, who are experience pros at installing Starlink, marine security cameras and marine camera systems, communications devices, entertainment systems, IT networks, advanced WiFi, data cabling and Starlink maritime on private yachts, sailboats, freighters, commercial vessels, and merchant ships, completed this installation, the ship embarked on her journey across the Pacific Ocean. We were all secretly and sometimes not so secretly wishing for big waves or another waterspout as she has experienced in the past (sorry no videos of that one!)
When one thinks about this…to the general public and until now this type of technology was a sci-fi fantasy concept many of us enjoyed while reading fictional books and watching Star Trek (and similar) religiously…it truly is an amazing phenomenon that LEO Satellite high-speed low-latency broadband internet technology is now a reality and readily available to the general public. Please file this story in the non-fiction section.
For ships, boats, sailboats, power boats, cruisers, yachts, freighters, steamers, merchant ships (MS), fishing boats, houseboats, riverboats, pontoon boats, tugboats, party boats…and the list goes on… Starlink® Maritime for Boats continues to bridge the digital divide by connecting high-speed, low-latency LEO (low-Earth-orbit) satellite internet to maritime vessels at sea on rivers, lakes and oceans worldwide.

Crossing the Pacific Ocean…here are some recorded YouTube live streams via Starlink maritime…Bow view, Stern view, then a 4 cam split view. Crossing the Pacific Ocean while Live Video Streaming to YouTuber via Starlink
The journey continues...
At the time of this posting they had just stopped in the Philippines for supplies…from the dock in General Santos at night.
YouTube clips: Crossing the Pacific Ocean while Live Video Streaming via Starlink Maritime, then at anchor in the Philippines getting supplies.
Still no really big waves or bad weather causing big swells or other high seas maritime happenings.
But we are on the lookout and hoping to capture some stunning footage. There will be more coming!!
